Voices for Healthy Kids supports policy changes that ensure all children will grow up at a healthy weight where they live, learn, and play.
Early Care and Education, often called daycare or preschool, is much more than play time. Active play is a critical component to physical as well as social development. During the formative years of birth to age five, children’s needs for healthy foods and active play grow as fast as they do.
This is why our focus is on setting kids up for success through good nutrition, limited screen time and lots of fun and games that keep them moving. When it comes to early childcare, our focus includes the following:
Early care & education — Establish statewide nutrition, physical activity, sugary drink, water access and screen time standards for early childcare providers. Support Quality Rating and Improvement Systems as a tool to monitor and implement HEPA standards. Secure public funding for technical assistance. Eliminate marketing in child care settings.
Early Head Start/Head Start – Support policies and funding that increase awareness of and access to Early Head Start/Head Start programs, and advance efforts to promote coordination among providers across the continuum from early care to kindergarten.
